Within 30 days during March two very exciting things happened for us. First, ReCycles McKinney was the recipient of a $5000 grant from the McKinney Community Development Corporation (http://mckinneycdc.org/). This goes directly to fund tools and equipment for our recycling center.
Second, within the same 30 days we were able to secure long term working space with the generous help of Nevil Masonry Supply by creating a long term lease arrangement of over 700 sq. ft. at the south east corner of Spring Creek Parkway and US 75 in north Plano. [Note: It is conveniently located behind Quik Trip and Sam’s Club and across the street from Performance Bicycles (more about them in a bit) and 5 Guys Burgers.
Already we have taken advantage of the grant funding and turn the space into a productive workspace with lights, workbenches, storage, work stands, and a very, very large tool kit from Park Tools.
Here is a picture of what we have done so far with the space:
The timing could not have been better as on Thursday, April 25th we will be delivering 150 bicycles to the First Baptist Garage Giveaway (http://www.fbcmckinney.com/garagegiveaway) and we absolutely needed all that working space as well as the tools and supplies. Once these are delivered, we can catch our breath a little bit, reorganize the workspace, and get ready for the next one.
After this weekend, ReCycles McKinney will have given away over 200 bicycles in 2013, and are well on our way to giving away 1000 bikes in 2013.
